WordPress Anniversary (5 years)

Yep. It’s exactly what it looks like. Happy FIVE years 🙂

To commemorate this occasion here’s a list of some of my all-time favourite poetry from over the years (enjoy 🙂 ) :

Transparency (Part 1 – 3)

“Speech! Speech! Speech!”

I’ve skipped over three of my blog anniversaries in the past because I don’t usually put much thought into it. Ask any of my friends, it’s the same way with any of my birthdays. But occasionally, I like to get into it a little; if only just a little.

Within five years I’ve managed to meet some truly remarkable people here. Some of which I have grown to call friends. They may not see me the same way, but that’s not the point. What’s important to me is the unseen connection we all have; the knowledge we share either through our respective talents or through what we say to each other.

My blog has changed over the years. Slowly morphing into an ideal representation of me. And the truth is; it’s not done yet; it will never be done. You may see me adopt a new style of poetry; a new form of story-telling; a new theme; all that good stuff. Because I love this blog. I love how it has helped shape me into who I am now, how it has allowed me to explore what truly matters to me (my core values). And most importantly, how I see the world around me.

Thank you. To everyone who followed me, liked, commented and shared any of my posts. You are the true MVPs.

Now I don’t have wine, or a wineglass to clink the occasion. But I DO have water; plenty of it. And true to form, I will gladly drink this 1-litre bottle of water next to me in celebration of what I never believed I could achieve five years ago. To my blog! And to you, for being undeniably awesome!

Authentic: You

under_the_strange_horizon_by_joeyjazz-dd10hnj.jpg

I’m not telling you how to live your life

No, far from it; all I’m saying is

If you choose to lie to yourself long enough

Intent on being evasive

Of the pain that comes with the truth

Every delusion you have carefully crafted

For everything but your name

Will, in your world, become true.

And in all honesty,

That should frighten you.

Simple, but true. I love authenticity in character. Why forfeit your identity to masquerade as someone or something you are not? Perhaps there are do or die situations I’m not aware of. But outside of that, I cannot bring myself to understand.

The deeper someone pretends to be something they are not, the harder it will be to find themselves when they genuinely want to.

*******

Do not let your frown

Be the result of circumstance

Raise your head, after all,

Your crown shimmers – resonates

With every smile,

Let nothing and no one have the power

To take that away from you.

Realize how special you are

But soon after, use that knowledge

As a stepping stone to become aware

Of the same value in others.

*******

I choose to distance myself from anyone

Rather, anything, that intercedes

With the harmony, I work so hard to bring,

Lovers of money, inhibitors of the happy.

“Misery loves company”

Undoubtedly,

Perhaps if they spent more time

Looking on the outside as they do

On the inside, it would be notably easier

To magnify the level of selfishness

In consideration, of the collective.

I would say “stop”

But even I’m not arrogant enough to assume

My words carry enough weight to change

The hearts of everyone I speak to

In fact, all I do is try,

Try to be nice, try to be the best I can be

Try to dissuade the cultivation of darkness.

All things associated with the outside, of me

I can never truly account for, but I try,

If only to do my part

In making the world a better place.

But… as much as i’ll admit to not knowing

What you will do

After I try to push you to the light

I can, with every fibre of my being tell you

Not to bring that darkness to me

For trying to quell my burning ambition

Can, in essence, be likened to you attempting to hide

A supernova within the confines of your flammable garments.

*********

They say when you turn on the light

Darkness subsides

So, given my outlook

Would the rising sun

Or flipping the switch,

Leave my form In a state of fictitiousness?

Aforementioned verse exhibits

A layered set of words with underlying connotations

Eternal conflict between dark and light, black and white

Relaying the same concept in a different context,

My race; humour denoting how comfortable I am

In my own skin.

Poet by terrestrial definition

Aware of the many strings tugged to bring about

Motions intent on furthering human condition,

She said I have horns on my head,

I don’t dispute what she chose to see in me

Consider this: of the many facets, that bind my being,

She subconsciously resonated with what she knows she is.

Too much, too soon?

Regardless, I’m glad you could make time,

Listening to the textile approach of the Star-Seed,

Perhaps we’ll have another date

Where I delve even deeper

Into the Lonsdaleite that holds my burning spirit.

Currently Reading – The Night Angel Trilogy

tumblr_m6unwxZqIF1rxrhv4o1_1280

I failed to mention this earlier but I’ve been reading this trilogy for a while now, I’m already on the second book and the plot has me hooked. I probably wouldn’t have considered the trilogy had it not been my best friend who recommended it. I plan to do a full review of the trilogy, mentioning my likes and dislikes, while avoiding spoilers of-coarse.

A separate category for Reviews will be added in this regard.
