Ethnocentrism And Other Stupid Things.

I talk about racism a lot. However, in recent months I’ve since slowed down on talking about things that often leave me feeling exhausted. Afterall, my mental health takes the biggest hit.

If you’re an avid reader I believe it’s in your best interest to take breaks between reading my posts. The subject matter is often uncomfortable to binge, and despite that fact, these issues need addressing.

Before I took my break, I was on a streak of unapologetically honest (often abrasive) posts. Since coming back I’ve done my best to enjoy writing for the sake of writing. It’s gone well. But true to form, I feel myself returning to that cynic in me. I seem to oscillate between being a teddy bear and being an actual bear. Entering teddy bear mode when I need a break from the world and it’s endless stream of bullsh*t.

Consider this a potential warning, This post might go to some dark places.

Edit: I finished writing it, It’s not as dark as I thought it would end up being. Controversial maybe, but not dark.

gods_of_color__4_by_iamdetour_de8vb2e-fullview

As I said before, I talk about racism a lot. There is a tab on my page literally dedicated to black empowerment and all things related to being a black person. People often have a proclivity to assume when I’m talking about racism against blacks I’m automatically referencing white people. No, just racism overall.

If you’re racist you’re not safe from my ridicule. It takes a special kind of ignorance to be a racist. Believe it or not, it’s something you actually have to work hard to nurture. So yes, get offended if you’re racist, you deserve that and more.

Naturally, people often think I’m part of Black History month and the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement. Because I’m black. But I’m most certainly not a fan.

The first is unbridled tokenism. The perfect tool to re-enforce an unspoken divide. If you consider Black History Month at face value you’ll think black people are getting something meaningful, I suppose that’s the intension on a commercial level; to give that impression. And if you believe I’m wrong, that’s great. I just think black history should be a part of American history and not something so isolated and condensed into a small a month lol.

To me. it just comes across as. “Here, have a month to enjoy your contributions to society. Don’t say we never gave you anything”

But of course, this is just my personal interpretation and doesn’t need to be taken as the truth.

The second: BLM is something I have mixed feelings about. Look, I get it , a number of the injustices faced by the black community in America because of police brutality is staggering. No-one should have to go through that. But the whole movement is now diluted by crazy radicals who are quick to justify racism against whites or push a narrative of blacks being superior.

Any movement has the potential of nurturing rogue cells that misinterpret and misrepresent the initial message (similar to religion). Either through sheer stupidity, hypocrisy, entitlement or a weird blend of all three.

See, it’s unpopular (as a black person) to call out some of these things because a part of the black community automatically assumes I’m siding with other races. That I’m devaluing the struggles that others have gone through and have fallen for the illusion of racial equality.

Not at all, there is no racial equality, and If given the choice I would always choose to be black.

Try not to take this the wrong way but IDGAF what race you’re from. I care about the human. If you make a habit of putting too much value in our “differences” you’ll enter a never-ending spiral of comparisons. And that breeds hatred and entitlement.

Now you might be wondering why I lead with such a lengthy prelude, it’s to help give context to what I’m about to say. You wouldn’t understand how I came to certain conclusions without it.

I hate racism. That’s obvious.

Despite the semantic overlap there’s one thing I hate more. Ethnocentrism.

all_about_erikah_by_iamdetour_de8vfgk-fullview

This is going to sound like a hit piece, it’s fine if it gets interpreted that way (check out my references at the bottom in case you’re interested). I’m going to use South Africa (SA) as a case study because I’ve been there and it serves as a living diorama for pornographically entrenched racism, classism, tribalism and other likely -isms I’m too lazy to think of right now.

See, majority of black people in SA are what happens when corruption, a lack of education, entitlement and desensitization to violence meet. Yes, apartheid was terrible, but it is often used as a crutch by the majority to validate their barbaric behavior. And you might think me calling their behavior “barbaric” is pushing it, but take a look at the xenophobic attacks from 2009 – 2019, doing your best to exclude the looting taking place at this very moment.

You’ve got bigots, politicians and tribalists (hardly separable in this case) kindling sentiment against minorities/foreigners in the country which fuels more of this xenophobia. It’s a complete joke, radio silence as people are ransacked or murdered. And when those in charge eventually speak, there is a political rhetoric applied that does nothing to speak against or quell the ongoing violence. Which only emboldens the barbarians of the population to loot and kill unabated.

The only people who benefit from these kinds of situations are those in charge of the country. They’ve got perfect scapegoats (minorities) to demonize when they need a pressure release; the same people who help keep their economy afloat, whatever’s left of it anyway.

I didn’t mean to get too political, I try and avoid that sort of thing… but it’s driving to a point.

The reason I went on a frenzy is to give evidence to those that dine with racial hypocrisy. Often times, when people are called out by people outside their own race they apply emotion and not reasoning — and because that emotion makes them feel uncomfortable, they run for the racism card. Because it’s easier to rationalize it that way instead of identifying whether there is any validity to what’s been claimed.

Well, here I am, a black person calling out other black people. I dare you to call it racism now.

Are there people from other races that guise their malicious intent using words such as “barbarians” towards black South Africans? Yes.

But does that take away from the validity of what’s being said? No. Majority in SA are angry over the oppression they faced during apartheid — and the wounds are still present. Check out footage of SA looting during the pandemic and tell me how normal that is.

There is an underlying self-sabotage that seems to stem from lack of knowledge on how social or economic systems work and how such actions impact the country in the long run. No country is without its imperfections — I would know, my country (if you know it) is a breeding ground for corruption and is not much to look at.

But for someone to be blood thirsty, uneducated, ethnocentric and a racial hypocrite is a bad mix.

The culprits won’t listen to reason because they know better. They won’t go legit because their opportunities were taken from them due to apartheid, they see no recovery. They won’t accept foreigners because foreigners steal the aforementioned opportunities they are not qualified to take. They won’t stop a life of crime because they need to make up for not having a job. They won’t stop xenophobic attacks because their anger needs to be channeled somewhere. And in this hotbed of unreasonables they see themselves as completely justified in everything they do.

I just hope people can learn to open their eyes and see things with more clarity and not just lean on emotion. Otherwise none of us are going anywhere.

I liken this to my extensive research on slavery. It sucks reading about that but at the same time it is very insightful. A part of me still gets hurt thinking about that history. I will never forget what happened, however, it would be unreasonable of me to put every white person I meet under that stencil.

I’ll base my judgements on character, not skin. Because skin color is fundamentally useful for data collection and building a framework; but it doesn’t automatically make someone a good or bad person. If that sounded obvious, you’re clearly smart.

It would not be a stretch to say there are those who would argue against this. Well, to you I say “You know everything. You clearly don’t need anyone’s help”

Unpopular opinion #2 I just want a simple boring life by u/newCoder250

Response(s):

Anne Leueene “#2 A Simple and boring life. Whaaaaat ? Who would want that? You might as well be dead from the start. Life is not simple! and it can only be boring if you are an exceptionally boring person”

Raw Earth Ink “#2 – I completely agree and actually somewhat similar to my own life decisions. Other than the 9-5 bit. Or only living 40 years. But living a “boring” life? Check. Not caring about superficial shit? Check. Doing the quiet things that bring me peace and a smile? Check”

O.D. “Anything that gets me as far away from drama as possible is a win. And if the absence of drama is boredom, then so be it lol”

Unpopular Opinion #3 It’s perfectly acceptable to break up with someone with mental health issues by u/LokiiVegas

Response(s):

Raw Earth Ink “#3 – I agree that it’s okay to break off a relationship for ANY reason. Yes. I said it: any. When you go into a relationship, it’s not a binding contract. It’s at-will. If it’s working, great. If it’s not, great. If it works for one but not the other, great. No one should feel guilty for walking away from a relationship. With or without a reason. Staying with a person BECAUSE they have a mental illness, in my opinion, is more disturbing. Because you are together for the wrong reasons and creates an unhealthy relationship for BOTH”

As for today’s unpopular opinion(s) We have four. Check them out:

(Note: These opinions are in no way reflective of my personal views or biases; just ones I think will spark interesting dialogue in the comment section)

Unpopular opinion #1 I love when old men stare at me at nude beaches by u/krunkou

Honestly I love when crusty ass old men stare at me at nude beaches (I’m female btw) People complain about it but nothing beats having an old dude come up to you to awkwardly chat while half chubbed

and no I’m not tryna get with these men or egg them on, I just eat up that kind of attention. feels good getting compliments no?

Unpopular opinion #2 If profanity offends you, you shouldn’t be working in an adult work environment by u/decayingprince

Seriously, if hearing the word “fuck” hurts your feelings, you have bigger problems than someone else’s vocabulary. I could understand if someone directed the word at you, but when someone just uses it as emphasis, there’s really nothing to be upset about. Just put on your big kid pants and deal with it.

Unpopular opinion #3 The death of a pet should be socially accepted and given vacation from work to grief your loss as with any family member that passed away by u/Honestless

As per the title. I hear a lot of people going through the loss of a pet and not being able to take a vacation for a few days so they can properly grief.

You spend years of your life with your pets, they’re closer to you than most family members and still, some bosses would not give a vacation for the fact that “The death of your pet is not an important enough event for which you would not be able to work.”

I know for certain that when and hopefully not soon my dog will die, I would be devastated. Going to work would be the last thing I would like to do in that case.

Unpopular opinion #4 It is not romantic/cute to take food from my plate by u/MinuteEconomy

This goes especially to girlfriends. There’s nothing wrong with sharing food, the part that is annoying is when you take food from my plate without asking and then not apologizing for it by smiling at me especially if it was something that I was saving to eat for last. By doing that, you have ruined my psyche and my whole meal because I usually plan my bites and how I’m going to eat it.

If you want some, order some for yourself or just ask, it’s not that hard.

Unpopular opinion #1 Stop acting like depression is cool. by u/Uxogh

Response(s):

Ramone “As for the first one about depression, I am pleased that more characters are depressed or show signs of dismay. This isn’t a new thing either. The Breakfast Club which came out in the 80s –I think– is all about mentally disturbed teens. However, it is true, or I feel it is true, today that mental illness is becoming a saturated niche. In the end, corporations care nothing about the culture. They just take advantage of whatever people are willing to consume. The culture today has a lot of depressed kids who rarely enjoy interacting with each other sexually or socially. We watch movies or T.V shows while living vicariously through them. The corporations understand this and provided relief in the form of relatable characters.
My opinion is coming from a man that has been depressed his whole life. I don’t think I know what happiness feels like”

Anne Leueene “Depression is cool? What? Depression is a mental illness. It is a hideous thing that causes so much pain for some people that they take their own lives and choose darkness over that pain. Sometimes I feel like I have lived too long to understand the younger generation who would think a serious mental illness is “cool” “

Raw Earth Ink “#1 – I’m not sure if I was getting exactly what they were saying, but my take is: it sure seems like EVERYONE has a “mental illness” with depression being the big one. I just don’t think that many have it. I believe that people are misinformed and uneducated about depression (and other things like OCD, etc). It’s not “cool” to actually have these. It can be debilitating. How is that “cool”?? A person can be depressed, for a while. Or go through a season of depression… but it shouldn’t be a lifestyle. It’s almost like, especially amongst artists, I’ve observed an almost addiction to the depression. It’s strange. I don’t think we should pretend it doesn’t exist… but also… we shouldn’t glorify or deify it either”

Unpopular opinion #2 Ignoring a phonecall or text message is not rude , it is a necessity for a healthy lifestyle. by u/HibiscusRosa

Response(s):

Raw Earth Ink  “#2 – I’ve never felt that ignoring phone calls or texts is rude. This seems more of a generational issue… I have only had a “smartphone” (or a cell phone for that matter) for four years. You can survive JUST FINE without constant bombardment of electronics and other people’s lives. Also, don’t be so impatient. It’s OKAY to wait. That includes responses. I think it’s more rude to be face to face with someone and have them rudely cut you off, talk over, or text over you due to a phone notification. Like the person in front of you is less important than the phone person”

Unpopular Opinion #1 There is nothing noble about choosing to keep a pregnancy knowing it will end with a genetically disordered child. by u/ShugarShorts

I am a special needs parent whose son’s disorder is so rare that they couldn’t detect it in utero. He was diagnosed at almost 1 after, in addition to the many other problems he was having, he began to have seizures and thus genetic testing.

I am currently pregnant and on a parent forum where so many parents post about not knowing if they would do the early genetic screening and it’s followed by even more parents saying it would matter what the results are they wouldn’t do anything about it.

Life is hard. Life as a special needs parent is even harder. I’ve lived both ways and I hate the naivety and toxic positivity that dwells among these communities.

I hate that my son was born with his issues. It has taken a toll on every aspect in my life. There is no real specials needs child care. The amount of procedures, doctors appointments, surgeries, extensive therapies, equipment is ungodly expensive and exhuasting. He suffers in ways that I can’t do anything about. My relationship has gravely suffered, we never get to spend time without him and when we do it’s brief.

There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t wish this wasn’t my life. I see too many people on instagram etc. Posting in matching clothes with inspirational quotes and nobody is being honest. It sucks. It’s not fair to me or my family.

It’s isolating as hell. People act like you’re an amazing parent just because you’re going through this when half the time I’m falling apart.

Does any of this mean I don’t love and cherish my son? No. But, If faced with results of another genetic disorder or something similar, I would absolutely terminate.

Unpopular Opinion #2 I just want a simple boring life by u/newCoder250

I don’t care about making a ton of money. I don’t care about politics. I don’t care about changing the world. I just want a simple 9 AM- 5 PM job where I get paid average and then go home and eat and sleep. I’ll be fine doing this for 40 years and then die. I just want to watch the sunset near the pond at my old house I grew up in. I want a simple life. I don’t care about showing off a car on Facebook to old classmates. I don’t care about the newest play station. People say this is sad and depressing but I just want to live life like this.

Unpopular Opinion #3 It’s perfectly acceptable to break up with someone with mental health issues by u/LokiiVegas

Not everyone is equipped to deal with everything that comes along with your issues, and no one is obligated to. You deserve someone who can handle it, and that’s not everyone.

People who would rather steer clear aren’t monsters. They just want to protect themselves from issues they can’t relate to and cant fix. Accept that.

Unpopular opinion #1 Being good at math doesn’t make you smarter than other people. It just means you’re good at math. by u/alcoholyuhlater

Response(s):

Paula Light  “Agree. People have their niches. Someone might be really good with tools and fixing/building things, but know little of history and literature. Vice versa for another. We should celebrate all skills and forms of knowledge instead of only the ones that the SAT can judge”

rugby843 “Agreed, people have individual talents and should use them to their best advantage”

Anne leueen “#1. YES! I was hopeless at Math and a good student in other subjects. Math is a subject you can get 100 % in . History? English? Philosophy? No 100% in those subjects. I worked in the financial markets for many years and people would always say “you must have been good in Math”. HaHA! If they only knew!”

Zaexanthe “1.For so long Math and speaking good English have been used as a sign of intelligence. In as much as math is important, its becoming irrelevant because everyone has a calculator. Our education system worldwide is now outdated. It was built on who can memorize the most but thats unnecessary now, we have information at the tip of our fingers. Intelligence is more than book smart, it includes so many other things. Whats the point of being good at math if you are not socially intelligent.”

Unpopular opinion #2 Kids aren’t dumb so start treating them like the individual they are by u/Delusionaldally

Response(s):

Paula Light  “Yes, treat children respectfully. That mom needs to be educated too though before she harms her child with poor nutrition and self-image”

rugby843 “Children are just little people and understand more than we know.  Respect that and act accordingly.  Ramen noodles are extremely bad for anyone, easy and cheap yes, but not for a good diet.”

Anne leueen “#2 Kids are unique individuals and I NEVER talked to either of my kids as if they were lacking in intelligence. I also referred to myself as I and not “Mummee ” As in “Mummee wants you to put your toys away now. Mummee is getting dinner for you snookums”. Nope it was “Time to put your toys away now Tom and Annie. Lets get cleared up and ready for dinner.” “

Unpopular opinion #3 Influencers are bad for society, and they should be stopped. by u/Efren_John

Response(s):

Paula Light “I don’t even understand the influencer thing, maybe because I don’t use Instagram. Are companies really paying minor celebs to put their product in a photo? Who cares!”

rugby843 “If you let your child watch or use this type of technology constantly you are doing them a disservice.  Teach by example”

Zaexanthe “Influencer culture is the worst disease that has hit our generation. People are being rewarded for being lazy, stupid and just useless. Since everyone is an influencer now what will our future be like?”

Unpopular opinion #1 Stop acting like depression is cool. by u/Uxogh

I’ve been under depression for several years. I attempted 3 times to end my life and the only result nowadays is a constant anxiety against myself.. I have trust issues and I barely even sleep correctly at night.

Netflix and other Medias have to stop acting like it’s something great and important for teenage boy/girl. I truly think a character doesn’t have to be depressed to be a deep character.

Unpopular opinion #2 Ignoring a phonecall or text message is not rude , it is a necessity for a healthy lifestyle. by u/HibiscusRosa

Because I own a smartphone it doesn’t mean that I want to be available all day. Personally I
set my boundries, during lunch/dinner and from 15h00-17h00 which is my personal time to workout and relax I never answer any phonecalls or messages. With messages I am even stricter and I answer them only when I find time to spare. If I replied to every message or email right away, it would absorb a significant amount of my precious time and I would have to use my phone more than I would like.

Unpopular opinion #3 Dating coaches are ridiculous by u/CharlesElliotFiddler

I saw on instagram the other day that this one girl I know was promoting her friend’s “dating coach services”. I laughed. Is that even real?

I looked it up and there are a ton of ‘professional services’ for people looking to improve their dating life. I swear to god I never saw something more ridiculous than this. People actually pay money for this.

This is something more popular in the US, Canada, and UK. When I was in Scandinavia and Panama, you didn’t really see things like that. Similarly in Ireland too. It’s not as common there.

In Wyoming and Alaska, it’s not that popular either, but in many places in the US it is.

Unpopular opinion #4 Women who dress certain ways for modesty reasons are empowering in their own way. by u/thishams

I don’t believe in controlling women, and how they dress, but being half Middle Eastern, I have a lot of female relatives who wear hijabs and keep themselves covered for modesty reasons.

I live in the US, and my relatives are in no way forced to dress this way. They aren’t even practicing religion.

I just find it so empowering how they choose to dress this way because it makes them feel better about themselves.

I’m not trying to slut shame, or say that women who dress differently aren’t empowering either, I just think that women who dress certain ways for modesty reasons are empowering in their own way.

I shared five unpopular opinions in the last post. Thank you to those that participated.

Unpopular opinion #1 Hate towards the homeless is one of the biggest problems that goes vastly unnoticed by u/-kiwi-1

Response(s):

 rugby843  “In my opinion, most of these I would say are ridiculous except for the first one. You don’t need to be rude or use disgusting behavior to a homeless person. It might be you some day”

Infinite Living “The treatment of the homeless is totally inappropriate. I didn’t think about it before but I agree with you on number 3 🙂

anne leueen  “The homeless. I was always nervous of homeless people. I didn’t hate them I was just very uncomfortable. Then I read James Bowen’s autobiographical story :”A Streetcat Named Bob.” This is a true story of a recovering addict and a stray street cat and how they save each other. It opened my eyes to what the homeless life is like. Now I often will stop to chat for a moment and see if they would like something to eat.”

Unpopular opinion #5 Women should be allowed to take a sick day on the first day of their period every month, if they need to, without consequences by u/lemonpaloma

Response(s):

Infinite Living “I don’t know if it is required to specify that I am a woman on the first day of period. I would rather simply take a sick leave because I am sick just like any other human feels sick someday and prioritize self-care. I am assuming there are monthly sick leaves allotted in most jobs, I don’t work for anyone”

Thanks to Anne leueen , Infinite Living and rugby843 for participating and sharing their thoughts. Very much appreciated.

(Note: These opinions are in no way reflective of my personal views or biases; just ones I think will spark interesting dialogue in the comment section)

Unpopular opinion #1 Being good at math doesn’t make you smarter than other people. It just means you’re good at math. by u/alcoholyuhlater

Society has such a hard-on for STEM but I don’t think it makes someone smarter just because they did well in one of those subjects in school. Like someone being good at writing/art should be looked at the same as someone being good at math/biology/physics etc.

Unpopular opinion #2 Kids aren’t dumb so start treating them like the individual they are by u/Delusionaldally

I work in childcare and it amazes me when I speak to others they look down on kids thinking they can’t understand basic things. For example, I took care of and tutored a now three year old. The mother has weight insecurities so she barely feeds her kid. Only ramen noodles and juice. When the kid is with me I feed her properly, the mom flipped out and told the daughter not to accept food from me in the future. The two year asked why and she said “because you’ll get fat like me” the little girl apparently said “but teacher eats more than you and she’s not fat” and she flipped out on the kid. The kid was genuinely confused so I sat her down and talked to her about how fat is stored, unhealthy eating habits etc. I was still talking to a toddler so I made sure to explain it in terms she would understand.

Another instance my cousins were playing and I heard my female cousin tell her brother that he’s acting gay in a taunting way. I asked if they they what it means. “No, but I know it’s bad”. I explained what gay means to them. I’m from a largely Christian family and afterwards they said, “but gay is not bad”. I did not influence their opinion at all! All I did was explain the actual word and they were able to reach that conclusion themselves. Same with the girl from before, I never bad mouth her mother at all. I just told her how the body stores fat, the benefits of a healthy balanced diet etc.

I talk to children like they’re people. I know they can critically think for themselves given the right information and everyone needs to start doing so. Ask them questions, answer their questions and talk to them like you would any one else.

Unpopular opinion #3 Influencers are bad for society, and they should be stopped. by u/Efren_John

Fuck Influencers.

We don’t need the youth being influenced by these dumbnarcissisticmillennials/GenZ, getting rich and famous, for being stupid, doing bullshit pranks, playing video games all day, and showing their ass & tits for views.

We need to stop awarding these influencers, or giving them a pass. It’s tiny things that can create big impacts.

Young people are dedicating a lot of time watching these types of people. They need to held in check. Held accountable.

I shared six unpopular opinions in the last post. Thank you to those that participated.

Unpopular opinion #2 The groom is just as important to the wedding as the bride, and should be treated like it by u/TheFlyingBoxcar

Response(s):

anne leueen “#2.The groom is as important as the bride . He is , after all , 50% of the equation. No groom no wedding. I think he is overlooked because he does not get to wear such a fancy costume. And think about how often the Prima ballerina is mentioned and featured but the male lead dancer just appears to be there to life her up in the air. However Nureyev did equalize things through sheer stage presence”

*******************************************************

Unpopular opinion #3 We should normalize couples living together having two separate rooms by u/PickleWitty

Response(s):

L’enthusiast “I agree with #3 couples should have separate rooms because inasmuch as you are part of a couple you are also an individual and there are days you just want your own space. It should be normalized to have your own room/space whatever the reason might be”

rugby843 “Separate rooms were a must when my husband was dying from cancer. A loving relationship between adults should not have separate bedrooms — not a good idea, in my opinion, at any time”

Thanks to Anne leueen , L’enthusiast  and rugby843 for participating and sharing their thoughts. Very much appreciated.

As for today’s unpopular opinion(s) We have five. Check them out:

(Note: These opinions are in no way reflective of my personal views or biases; just ones I think will spark interesting dialogue in the comment section)

Unpopular opinion #1 Hate towards the homeless is one of the biggest problems that goes vastly unnoticed by u/-kiwi-1

This is coming from someone who has been homeless previously.

Sitting on the side of the street cold, alone and hungry isn’t a nice feeling. People give you weird looks, move their children away from you. It just makes you feel like no one cares, there are people that drop a few coins in or give you some leftovers which was always appreciated but it’s even worse at night. I’ve Been kicked punched pissed on, spat on beaten relentlessly time after time. Shelters are often no better, there are some bad people in there. Drug dealers, criminals. Neither the streets or the shelters seem safe. But you never really hear about it from what I’ve seen.

Unpopular opinion #2 It’s okay to not want to be friends with someone who has a mental illness/ mental health issues by u/tittybunsbeans

I don’t mean it’s okay to be a dick to them, I have a bunch of mental health issues as well. I mean it’s okay to acknowledge that it can be hard to make space and set aside the energy to maintain relationships with people who go through this shit and if at a point in your life you can’t do that, for the sake of your own mental health and sanity, it’s okay to set some boundaries and does not make you an evil or bad person.

Unpopular opinion #3 Companies need to stop using the words ‘only’ and ‘just’ when telling you how much something costs. by u/JesseB342

I know I sound crazy, but this has always irked me. Don’t try to make your product sound reasonably priced by putting the word ‘only’ or ‘just’ in front of the cost. Brand new streaming pile of horse shit, ONLY 9.99! or Bag of broken glass and cigarette butts, JUST 14.99!

Just come right out and tell me the fucking price. Don’t play games with me or treat me like I’m stupid. I know the relative value of things and what im willing to pay for something. If it’s a good deal I’ll buy it, otherwise I won’t. Stop using buzzwords to try and make a ridiculous price sound reasonable because it’s not working.

Unpopular opinion #4 The way Americans talk about “The Founding Fathers” as if they’re some sacred Gods who had it all figured out 200 years ago is very weird and cringey by u/Stimlak

I get that they are historically important, but some people think these guys from 200 years ago were incredible at predicting the future. As a non American, this always seems weird to me.

Unpopular opinion #5 Women should be allowed to take a sick day on the first day of their period every month, if they need to, without consequences by u/lemonpaloma

If you’re having horrible cramps, bloating, exhaustion, significant bleeding, etc., you shouldn’t be forced to put on a brave face and go to work if you don’t feel well enough. Many workplaces are male dominated or ruled by men and they obviously don’t understand and can’t relate to the hardships women face every month. It shouldn’t be taboo or embarrassing and it doesn’t make you any less competent or capable if you need a break when your body is revolting against you.

Black Fire Depository.

You can call me black — no harm done,

Limitations of language and understanding.

You can even take it to the 70s and go full Rhodesian

Despising and metricizing worldly pigments.

 It’s not your fault for being that stupid — they call it dualism of the mind

And you, my friend, are a slave to one side of that coin

Shackled, to the fickle nature of hauling five senses.

Collared, lovingly, to the physical realm — like a mangy dog neglected by its owner

You are in the late stages of spiritual starvation; married to earthly hallucinations;

I don’t expect you to see past that mirage —

To see how my spirit burns, a blaze untamed

In a reality you’ll never understand.

Diagnosing me as the devil is the first step to misidentifying my presence

Demon possessed? Maybe.

Are you afraid? You shouldn’t be.

I’m beyond such petty schemes

Peddling cheap scares — pandering — placating

Surface level habits that give me nothing.

You’d do well to call this a panoramic view of satori —

I see it all. The collective sequence of events that denote your existence

I was built to be a passive observer of humanity’s choices and lack thereof.

Your life will begin and it will end with the deterministic value of a movie reel

And there I’ll be,

Using this body you hate so much to live through yet another Earth rehearsal;

Living through yet another time where you’ve seized to exist.

Confessions of a star seed:

This body will pass on

But my spirit and vision will continue pursuing what’s beyond;

Maybe as a sick joke next time I’ll possess one of you.

Dear racist, if all of that flew over your head

Do me a favor and at least try to understand this:

“You hating this flesh — this color,

Is not a waste of my time;

It’s a waste of yours”

I’m not in the mood to be nice. To be fair, I haven’t been in that mood for a while now.

When the BLM chants gained steam early this year, I refused to write about it here. Felt insincere as there were plenty of people voicing what I already felt. Furthermore, I’m not guided by some ethical imperative that dictates I prove my loyalty as a black person every time there is an injustice. It doesn’t make me more empathetic to be involved. I don’t need to prove myself. Simply look at how many posts I’ve written regarding black injustice (tracing years back) to see what I mean. I was speaking against injustice long before George Floyd’s unfortunate murder. There have been many others who people seem to forget and I fear listing all of them right now would dilute the point I’m trying to make.

Appealing to racists and entertaining their worldview (even as an Empath) is far too much for me. There are bad people to be found in all races, but many people are quick to try and play devil’s advocate before they catch up on their history. I’m talking Tulsa race massacre, the Tuskegee Syphilis study e.t.c .

Honestly? Do that first, then get back to me.

And before you say that all of these events “took place ages ago” and I should move on”, I in kind, would gladly ask you to go f*ck yourself.

I shared five unpopular opinions in the last post. Thank you to those that participated.

Unpopular opinion #1 by Ramone

“I have a sort of unpopular opinion depending if you are spiritual or not.
I always hated the concept that we as humans came here with some purpose but just forgot. That is like a man running into a burning house to save a person, but as soon as he enters he forgets why he entered. then the door is shut and locked. so he and the person are stuck in the burning house and both are confused and suffering”

Response(s):

Raw Earth Ink  “I tend to agree with Ramone and I don’t subscribe to that belief. For me, it makes no sense at all. It doesn’t take much to look around and the world and the Cosmos to see there is a Designer. It’s not random. I believe deep down we all KNOW why we are here (in a way) but sometimes we just don’t want to admit it”

*******************************************************

Unpopular opinion #2Porn is a good thing” by u/Amir-Iran

Response(s):

Ramone “I stumbled across porn at too early of a age (before 11). It’s been part of my life since. I don’t think it is about needing sex. I think it is about relief and habit. There are so many men and women who look at porn who are married or dating. To me, porn is like the news: it’s pure entertainment meant to get you off for a short period before moving on. In that sense, porn can be anything that stimulates. Nudity isn’t needed”

*******************************************************

Unpopular opinion #3 “Microwaved leftover pizza is 1000x better than fresh pizza”

by u/salted_rock

Response(s):

Raw Earth Ink  “I don’t think I have ever had microwave pizza, as I haven’t ever had a microwave. Whenever I had moved in somewhere there is one, I unplug it and put it in the closet. Therefore… well, I just can’t speak to whether it’s tasty or not. I will agree that COLD pizza the following day is good!” 😁

*******************************************************

Unpopular opinion #5 “It shouldn’t be seen as disrespectful to wear a hat indoors”

by u/Highlight_Smooth

Response(s):

Raw Earth Ink “I tend to agree with this one as well. I have never felt it was disrespectful to wear a hat. Of any kind. Especially in winter when, well at least where I live, it’s cold. Even inside. I’m not sure how or why a hat would be seen as disrespectful. For a man OR a woman. Because I’ve noticed that. It seems okay for women to leave adornment on but not a man?? This makes no sense to me. I’m off to see if I can find out where this thought came from…”

Thanks to Raw Earth Ink and Ramone for participating and sharing their thoughts. Without you, this series would not be possible.

As for today’s unpopular opinion(s). We have three, check them out:

(Note: These opinions are in no way reflective of my personal views or biases; just ones I think will spark interesting dialogue in the comment section):

Unpopular opinion #1 Big dicks are overrated by u/paradise1A

Big dicks are overrated, they hurt in most positions and are way too over sexualized. I have been with both guys who are packing and average sized and more times than not, average sized guys are better since they have to compensate for not have a big dick, where a bigger dick automatically thinks he’s good in bed cause the size of his penis. Over all I think average dicks are better than big dicks.

Unpopular opinion #2 Small kids should never be allowed to have pets by u/Hickmastafunk

I’ve seen countless stories about smaller animals being abused and not taken care of, and as a person who owns a few guinea pigs, it’s quite disturbing. These animals have feelings too.

People of all ages can be abusive to these animals, I know. But Children seem to do this the most. This usually is NOT their fault, as they either do not understand how to take care of them properly. I believe that a child should have to take some type of test or prove to the person selling these animals that they can take care of them.

It seems absurd, I know. But these are still animals. They can still feel emotion.

I don’t think that this should apply to all animals, however. As some “pets” can be used as food for others. A great example would be buying mice and feeding them to snakes. I only believe the larger of the small pets group should fall under what I believe.

I also don’t know if certain laws are put into place for this. I am an American, after all. I don’t even know if there are laws in other states that have this.

Unpopular opinion #3 “Be yourself” is terrible advice by u/perspicaciousguy

Whenever someone asks for advice about how they should act or what direction to go in life a common response is to just tell them to “be yourself” and things will fall into place.

This is extremely unhelpful to the person asking for advice. The reason they are asking is probably because they don’t know themselves. You can choose to do anything you want with life, simply “being yourself” doesn’t mean jack squat.

Much better advice in my opinion is to “be who you want to be”. Take a look at the people in your life, role models, people who you admire. Take the qualities from those people that you like and make them your qualities, ditch the ones you don’t like.

No one in the world is truly “themself”. At the end of the day were all just playing a big game of monkey see monkey do. But we do have the power to choose who we want to be – I think telling people to be themselves just makes them complacent in becoming the people they surround themselves with rather than actually becoming the person they would truly want to be.

I shared five unpopular opinions in the last post. Thank you to those that participated.

Unpopular opinion #1 Boobs are overrated”  by u/Shadowthelogical

Response(s):

Raw Earth Ink  “I guess it depends from the point of view… if you are one who loves a woman’s curves, then they are beautiful, if you are one who they always seem to get in the way, they are overrated, if you are a nursing child, they are sustenance and comfort”

**************************************************

Unpopular opinion #2 “You should be fired if you talk about church at work”  by [deleted]

Response(s):

Raw Earth Ink  “I don’t think a person should be censored from reasonable discussion, work or otherwise, however, if that discussion is slowing your production, then I do think there’s a time and a place. Doesn’t matter the content (ie: sports, politics, family, food, religion, ANYTHING). After all, you are being paid to actually work, not engage in conversation”

**************************************************

Unpopular opinion #3 “British accents sound stupid”  by [deleted]

Response(s):

thoughtsnlifeblog Maybe let’s pick 3. British accents. Well I am British and my accent is all over the place. Some like some dont. But in the UK , you have the Scottish, Welsh, Irish, and British In Scotland you have a strong Scottish accent and a soft one. I love accents they can be so much fun and enjoyable to listen too. Sometimes hard to understand if english is a secondary language, but I do love others accents from all over the world.

Coming back to my accent , it can be British with a mix of American. And if I spend too much time with someone with another accent I some how speak like that too. But hey ho that is me.. 🙃😉

Raw Earth Ink “this one is ridiculous. “Stupid” is talking about intelligence, an accent is enunciation. They aren’t related”

**************************************************

Unpopular opinion #4 You are not racist if you hate illegal immigrants” by u/Cole-Rex

Response(s):

Raw Earth Ink I’m unclear why anyone would hate immigrants (illegal or legal). I can understand disapproving of the ACT of illegal immigration, but to hate the person? That seems extreme. They are people. People who aren’t follow the laws and rules, but still people. As for the racism part, I don’t think it’s generally racism that people have issue with, again, it’s the part about not following the laws of immigration into the country that others (myself included) take issue with. I believe that mainstream media and the corrupt politicians try to make it racial in order to conquer and divide the people”

Anne leueen “Hating illegal immigrants does make you a racist. Hate is a pretty strong and damning emotion. While some of the may be economic refugees looking for a better job or better life. Many are people who have been persecuted or have frayed at the edges living in an intolerable war zone. I find the plight of refugees and migrants a very sad one. They risk their lives trying to get out of their countries. I live in a rich country and there is room for more people and these immigrants should be put through the process of examining why the entered illegally and if they can find a life in my country and could they get work, learn the language etc. That is what I would like to see”

**************************************************

Unpopular opinion #5 “You can’t be a real adult until you leave your parents house” by [deleted]

Response(s):

Raw Earth Ink “this is a very western world thinking. There are many people groups who continue living in communes or extended households quite happily and successfully. It makes sense to live communally. You share the work, you share the expense, etc. I think the fifties “American Dream” built upon the corruption of the banking system is the real error here. The dream was built to say you aren’t successful unless you have your own house, your own career, your wife and kids and dog. Why? Because banks need a commodity to lend money. Lending money is how they make money. So the commodity is a home. The home is built for 20k but by the end of its life has traded hands so many times over, the bank has made 800k on it. So, this “dream” is pushed off on the people, packaged and sold quite successfully, actually, so that it becomes muddled to where people now assume that if you remain living in your parents or grandparents home, you are worth less (because you ARE “worth less” monetarily to the bank) and therefore you must not be a real adult. See the problem? It’s not true. The basis of the statement is in error. Now, should a person stay living with their family and not contribute? No. Should they be lazy and use others to live? No. Should the parents treat them like a child, making children’s rules for them? No. Done right, they live in harmony, with equal amounts of give and take amongst all members of the family, according to age, ability, and (somewhat) desire”

Thanks to Raw Earth Ink , thoughtsnlifeblog, Ramone andAnne leueen for participating and sharing their thoughts. Without you, this series would not be possible.

monday_morning_by_snatti89_dc1jn1y-fullview

As for today’s unpopular opinion(s).

Like last week, I scoured the internet for all the unpopular opinions that were brought forth by people on forums and such. I try and group as many diverse opinions as possible, that way everyone can find something worth commenting on.

I will now only add unpopular opinions that come with added context, that way we can see where the person is coming from and their headspace regarding the opinion they’re sharing. This is to mitigate troll opinions, believe me, there are many of those.

(Note: These opinions are in no way reflective of my personal views or biases; just ones I think will spark interesting dialogue in the comment section):

Unpopular opinion #1 by Ramone

I have a sort of unpopular opinion depending if you are spiritual or not.
I always hated the concept that we as humans came here with some purpose but just forgot. That is like a man running into a burning house to save a person, but as soon as he enters he forgets why he entered. then the door is shut and locked. so he and the person are stuck in the burning house and both are confused and suffering.

Unpopular opinion #2 Porn is a good thing by u/Amir-Iran

Porn is not a bad thing! There are people like me who can’t have a relationship for some parts of their life. But sex is a need, and porn can help them to answer this need!

Unpopular opinion #3 Microwaved leftover pizza is 1000x better than fresh pizza

by u/salted_rock

I have serious problem. When I get pizza I always get extra because I love how it taste after sitting the fridge and being reheated to perfection in a microwave. The cheese is way more melted and bread is so much softer. Papa Murphy’s is the best reheated. Yeah you could use your cast iron skillet to crisp it but why waste you time when you could just have to wait 30 seconds for the best state that pizza will ever be in.

Unpopular opinion #4 Waking up to a nosebleed is the best way to wake up

by u/Matt_The_Slime

Waking up normally is usually a pretty tough task, forcing yourself out of bed groggily and slowly. It’s tough, it’s boring, it’s just not right

Meanwhile, waking up to a nosebleed will immediately get you out of bed to grab a tissue or to the bathroom to avoid constantly swallowing your own blood or bleeding all over the place. Sure you could plug your nose with your hand, but that takes too long. Either way, you’re waking up filled with adrenaline and most likely already out of bed, pushing you forward in your day.

Unpopular opinion #5 It shouldn’t be seen as disrespectful to wear a hat indoors

by u/Highlight_Smooth

that’s it. there’s nothing inherently disrespectful about wearing a hat inside in this day and age. Literally the only reason this rule exists is from medieval times when knights had to remove their helmets to show their face.

I just wanna wear a hat to school because my hair is greasy BUT NOOOO the second i walk in the door someone is yelling at me to take it off. its honestly pointless and makes no sense.

A Series Of Unpopular Opinions (3)

A series of unpopular opinions. Share a thought, no matter how crazy or critique the ones other people choose to share. The point is to have fun provided we all keep an open mind and respect each others views. Healthy debates are welcome, extended discussions even more so.

*******************************************************

I shared three unpopular opinions in the last post. Thank you to those that responded. I have also added responses made in the first post of this series. Be sure to check all of their blogs (links attached to their names):

(1) Unpopular opinion #1 – We are not happy. We are distracted. The human experience without distractions is fundamentally depressing and full of existential dread unless we tune in to our favorite TV shows or buy a new set of clothes to keep our thoughts occupied.

Response(s):

sjk44  “I agree with opinion #1. It so my life. Just keeping busy to stop yourself falling apart”

**************************************************

morning_coffe_by_snatti89_dbcg8c2-fullview

(2) Unpopular opinion #1 When you say “I love you” to your partner you shouldn’t expect them to say it back; especially if it’s the first time. People can be entitled to many things, but someone else’s love is not one of them.

Response(s):

Raw Earth Ink “Okay, so yeah… number one. Totally agree. I don’t like manipulation. This can be a form of it. I should be able to say “I love you” in truthfulness and as my spirit moves me, not as a knee-jerk response. (I compare it to when someone says “hi how are you” and the immediate response is “fine thank you”…. how about some honesty. Do you care about how that person actually is? Are you really fine?)”

Paula Light “Only say ILY if you mean it. I’ve made the mistake of saying it when I didn’t mean it, and predictable results followed 🙁

**************************************************

(2) Unpopular opinion #2 Mushrooms are disgusting. I’ve never found the appeal.

Response(s):

Raw Earth InkMushrooms. Not a huge fan either. I am okay with them sparsely used and only like the little brown ones”

Paula LightI love mushrooms!” 😂

**************************************************

(2) Unpopular opinion #3 It’s stupid how men are somewhat still expected to make the first move. What is this — the 50s?

Response(s):

Raw Earth Ink “I guess it depends on the definition of “first move”. I think anyone can express their feelings first”

Paula Light I’ve made the first move many times and it didn’t work out well. I think men my age may SAY they like it, but they don’t really. Too much cultural brainwashing…”

Thanks to Raw Earth Ink , Paula Light and sjk44 for participating and sharing their thoughts. Much love ❤

As for today’s unpopular opinion(s). I decided to scour the internet (and by ‘internet’ I mean reddit lol) for ones I could find; there are only so many unpopular opinions I can personally dish out before I start reaching. Here are some I found

(Note: These opinions are in no way reflective of my personal views or biases; just ones I think will spark interesting dialogue in the comment section):

Unpopular opinion #1 Boobs are overrated”  by u/Shadowthelogical

Unpopular opinion #2 You should be fired if you talk about church at work”  by [deleted]

Unpopular opinion #3 British accents sound stupid”  by [deleted]

Unpopular opinion #4 You are not racist if you hate illegal immigrants” by u/Cole-Rex

Unpopular opinion #5 You can’t be a real adult until you leave your parents house” by [deleted]

Most of the accounts with the most controversial opinions were [deleted] by the users and I’m assuming it’s because their chats were getting spammed with hate or something. Lol some of those “unpopular opinions” though, damn 😂

What are your thoughts and opinions? Let me know in the comments. I’ll be sure to link your contribution to your blog for all the credit.

See you in the comments(?)
