Spirit Rift (Collaboration)

A collaboration with Tara from Raw Earth Ink through poetry; alternating sets of verses.  Please visit her blog and check out her amazing work. No time to waste 😉 Let’s get into it:

*******

Sand grains massage our feet,

Waves hit our ankles, toppling our sandcastles

No, we’re not sad, but we’re definitely a little salty,

Literally — our toes watered, sand-drenched-deep

In the warmth of mother earth’s caress —

Absorbing all that we can sea

Past the sun-kissed vanishing point

To us, the Sun sets how it rises;

We are strangers to the darkness and it’s cherry covered lips

The evening? What’s that?

We are one — an extension — Permutations of the light

We are wherever it is.

Sun rise, sun set, moon rise, sun rise

Blink and the future has become the past

Afternoon? Day break?

We stand still and clouds wax, then wane

The salt-encrusted waves brush our shins

Retreat

The great work of our hands melt

Harden and melt right before watering eyes

Sadness holds our hands

We shiver but stand firm

Part of something greater we will never be a part of

Cracked lips smile and part

Teeth glowing from inner light

Laughter spills like tears

We grow

–  And grow, far-reaching — think liana vines intertwining,

Precisely how our minds move and wander,

Travelling past stars littering the cosmos,

They’re all over the place;

It’s no insult when you say we’ve since lost them

No metric for the merging of gifted imaginations

Hardly human, yet a brush with barbed wire still leaves us bruised

Surprise-surprise, mouths agape when our blood leaks with an ethereal glow,

To pass time, we play squash using the end of this universe

In-between ricochets, we convey the entirety of that experience through verse.

“What’s that in the air?” – “Is it a bird?” –  “Is it a plane?”

No, it’s simply our minds coming back.

Coming back, coming back

from winding paths and circling constellations

It’s all a game, isn’t it?

games and gains

Points received and penalties taken

We morph, grow; expand like dark matter

pushing us faster and faster

to the edges of the unknowable known universe

The further out we look

the further in we perceive

in reality it’s push-and-pull

all coming back again

The dream-verse surrounds and engulfs

Lifting cliffs of fantasy and rivers of science

Fields full of poppies and poetry

A sky dusted with possibility

An ocean seized with salted lust

Salt, salt, yes, minerals coating toes

We dip in and retreat

Shift from one foot to the other

Watching the horizon, time slips

Like our souls during an ephemeral passage into a spirit rift

Say hello to the terrestrial embodiment of your unspoken spirit guides

Language is recursive, and this piece fits snugly at the end of it

Each flick of the wrist with that raw earth ink uncovers secrets of the galaxy

Take care to go slowly, rein in the need to OD on the knowledge;

Digest at varying paces but let nothing fly over your head

We strike the balance with little to nothing to show for tipping scales

A sample of humble pie to go with our cup of due pride

We were always told to dine on a balanced diet

And this is it — two burning souls cooking all waking senses

Leaving them simmering, don’t you worry;

All you need do is form a single file

For there is plenty of love, clarity and empathy

For all.

To get the ink flowing, sating the creative in me

I could share a tale of how constellations first have to combine

Over the cosmos, in a way that forms an image,

Drawing the best of my imagination;

But – as always – I’d be getting ahead of myself,

After all, to begin writing,

I’d need not look further than anything around me.

Really, the first thing I do

Is look inside myself while I’m looking out

Sure, the world around me

Provides excellent inspiration,

Both good and dark,

But if I’m honest with myself

(And I have to be, to write)

It’s the inner things,

My thoughts and experiences,

That I really draw upon.

… And draw upon them I do

With such fiendish precision.

Thoughts and feelings curating,

Procedurally generating… Art,

Straight from the heart.

These thoughts, ideas, and emotions

Swirling and mixing inside me

Come pouring out in rivulets and swells.

They appear as nouns and axioms,

Run-on sentences and adverbs,

Semi-colons and hyperbole.

There are no rules, only the need

To release.

The world, our canvas

Is as clear as it could ever be

Impromptu strokes, beyond stoked

For the surprise, I am yet to see.

Follow the scene of my soul,

lighter moments of colour

Paint the scene of my mind

Keeping pace with the road ahead

As steps move us forward,

In places where anything goes.

Lo and behold

Paintbrush bristles, kiss the poetic palate

Imprinting our souls and what they see;

A persistent light in the unrelenting darkness

Painting pictures with words that appraise

What the rest of the world

Would not hesitate taking for granted.

I follow my bliss with a like-minded soul

Travelling into the paradise of beauty

And I know you will follow me to the end of days,

In this moment we shall walk together

Basking in the creation we become

Upon this canvas of a place called life

Treading lightly into the miracle of now.

Once more, we become one

Penning our thoughts and words,

Watch them flow seamlessly

Through this conduit, we call poetry.

Fortunately or unfortunately,

It will take this and probably, many more pieces

Before they put it all together and see

That the life we weave far bypasses

The containment of Earth’s narrative.

Invisible hands move slowly

Softly melding in to touch the coolness

I am created piece by piece

Sheltered in the warmth

I wait to serve.

In unison, I pour

The best of me and you

Molded formation of love and truth

Allotropes of the light

Touch gifted by none other

Than the most divine.

I feel you through each finger tip,

Forming my soul with such an innocence

And as seen through your eyes

You make me whole

And through my imperfection

I feel beautiful

Inside and out.

Kneaded, to a standard reflective of

How much we’re needed

Nature of our design sparks emulation

Feel the presence in our stillness

Look at us, witness your reflection

Through our rich definitive finish

Another love letter

From our Maker.

We stand together

Unique in our collective being

Standing tall and ready

To serve the needs of the starving soul,

To refill where there is an emptiness

With hope and love for all.

Slipping through,

Behind me I sense you

A daily taunt, a tease…

As the tides rise at your command

I watch smitten…

When today decides to marry

A new day, a dark veil descends

I relay, rather, reflect

The best you choose to give

The light, from your form

Brings me to their attention

Hides my darkness

As I orbit around their home…

I wake from a moving slumber

Feeling your cold cool loveliness caress

As you cover me like a glowing glove

My blush rises from behind

Radiating the warmth

As I burn through this space

Glancing as I watch you

Proud and silently slipping away….

… Slipping away,

Or so it seems, to them

For departing, means arriving

On the opposite side

Of this terrestrial plain

Time consciousness on infinity,

Never missing a beat, consistently

Gracing us with that light you,

In the simplest form,

Shine persistently.

I wait for you

Like a reflection in the mirror

I know you are there

Essences of my favorite shades,

We work the line

Invisible and steady

Knowing the cord reaches unseen

I am tied to you

And you to me

Eternally.

*********

Who better to bear the baton

Than us, the peace-makers,

Champions of the ink-slinging

And masters of penmanship.

Who better,

To make the world aware of its decline

Than us, rather me

An individual who’s always

Deep in internal conflict

Seeking endless betterment of the self.

Is it wrong of me

To say i’m sick of the pointless killings?

So they can’t prove their point

Through verbal means;

Does that equate a gun

As the best alternative?

Weakness doesn’t begin to describe

The flaw in that rationale;

As an advocate for light i’m ashamed

To call myself human.

Surely, you realize

Our enemy lies elsewhere

Yet all we do

Is kill each other before

We face the real threat that lies

In the darkest recesses of the abyss.

I’m not arrogant,

But i’m not entirely humble either;

To topple the enemy that

Threatens the very existence

Of the human race turning a blind eye

Is leagues away from the solution .

I refuse to wait before the weak-willed

Who deem themselves powerful

Push to establish their power motives

At the expense of human lives

While I wait for a change of heart.

No, to hell with that,

I  will channel all I have ,

Ink and all, to the center

Of their consciousness through

A plethora of penned lines

Exorcising the demons that reign

Over their hearts.

A medium

That best magnifies

A piece of my mind

To give me peace of mind,

Hand me the pen

And cue the white dove,

No pre-determined formula

Nor appraisal for the zen

We search for everyday.

But when luck has it

And light seeps

From this vessel,

The result of being

An advocate for light,

Touching souls

On being able to relate,

On ups and downs;

No greater euphoria.

When all is said and done

Granting peace to others

Far supersedes

My endless search

For inner peace.

Peace was born

in the eye of the storm

when time stood still

Peace was held

without expectations, without condemnations

without the dollar bill

Peace was yours

Peace was mine

Peace was free

Peace was found in quiet contemplations

in heart’s whispers

amidst the silence of trees

I searched for peace

in nature’s soul

to be whole

to find me.

Perhaps

My doormat of a heart

Has been stomped on enough.

Perhaps

If I change

Circumstances will follow suit;

Fate covering all those gaps

That have denied me closure.

Perhaps

If I look closer

At who I am, and what I do

I won’t have to choose

Between being myself;

And pleasing you.

Perhaps

If I kneel down and pray

All will go away.

Perhaps

one day

behind the cloud

hiding the moon

I will find

my faded dreams

my long lost tune

of my soul

Perhaps

in the clarity

of the clear skies

I will stop

the lies

I say to my heart

While You Were Away (Collaboration)

Visited pockets of myself

That I often neglect

Sorrow, tears,

Anger, Regret

Pieces of Michael’s set

An entire conglomerate

At any rate,

I’m inclined to rewind

So you take witness, of what it took,

For me to be here,

The pre-requisite grind

… While you were away
